I love children’s mosaic art projects, especially ones that are guaranteed to lay down nice and flat, like with this colored masking tape. MATERIALS
1. Beginning with 1″ green tape, cut strips into squares and line up across the bottom of a sheet of black paper. 2. Use purple tape squares to make the inside curve of the rainbow. 3. Continue adding rows of blue, light green, yellow, orange and red. 4. Finish off with rows of light blue for the sky. Any kid can draw a flower, but are they aware of the many different shapes and sizes that exist? MATERIALS
• Watercolor paper • Black Sharpie marker • Liquid watercolor paint DIRECTIONS 1. I started by drawing a large collection of flowers on my sample piece. The kids can draw the grass line in pencil first then add at least three large flowers spaced evenly across the page. Have them fill in the spaces between the large flowers with smaller flowers. 2. Trace their artwork with a black permanent marker like a Sharpie. 3. The flowers and grass were painted in with a variety of watercolor paint colors. 4. Paint the sky area with clear water leaving space around all of the flowers. This keeps the colors from running together. 5. Use blue paint to fill in the wet sky area Have fun! Let me know how it goes <3 This tissue paper craft is more decorative than functional, but it sure is pretty and easy to make. MATERIALS
DIRECTIONS
This birch tree art project for kids uses tape to block off the tree shapes, and watercolor paint and salt to make the textured midnight sky. MATERIALS
• Watercolor paper • 1" Painter's tape • Scissors • Watercolor paint, blue • Table salt • White Acrylic paint DIRECTIONS 1. Tape a border around the edge of a square of watercolor paper with 1″ painter’s tape. Cut thick and thin strips for trees that touch the top and the bottom of the border. These strips should be hand cut for a natural look. Branches may be added, along with a moon. Make sure all tape edges are smoothed down. 2. Water down dark blue watercolor paint and spread over the entire picture. To add texture, sprinkle salt on the paint while still wet. Let dry for several hours. 3. Rub the salt off the picture and carefully peel off the tape. To add little snowflakes, paint white dots with a small brush and acrylic paint. If any of the paint leaked into the trees, you can also use this paint to cover up those spots. 4. With very watery blue paint, add the little bark edges on the left and right of the trees and branches. Also add a shadow stripe on the same side of all the trees and branches. |
